Meet the Team
2010 brings a new name,
McLane Global and new operating
structure organized around our two divisions.
The International Division first began trading in 1958
and for over forty years was the primary business of the
old M-C
International. Our current team consists of individual
traders who have expertise in international commerce and
logistics. In the new organization our partners (staff)
will be known as
International Trading Managers. Each McLane Global
partner is an expert in the cultural and administrative
needs of the various areas of the world. In addition our
team is well versed in the sourcing of U.S. Brands.
While the titles have changed the team at McLane Global
remains in place to serve our customers with our world
renowned service and expertise.
Tania Chan -
International Trading Director
With over 15 years of service, Tania Chan is McLane
Global's most tenured international partner. Her
leadership skills and industry experience are largely
responsible for the continued growth and development of
our export business throughout the Asian Pacific.
Tania has an educational back ground in marketing, which
she utilized to help with the development and management
of our private label exports. In addition to having and
active group of trading partners in Asia, Tania shares her experience to help train and
develop others in their trading practices. Tania is
fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.
Hongxia “Sam” Xiao -
International Trading Director
Ms. Hongxia “Sam” Xiao’s has provided leadership for
McLane Global in both the import and export divisions of
the company. In December 2005, she served as the
company’s Chief Representative and Managing Director for
the McLane China operation, which included the
establishment of valuable partnerships with key
importers, distributors and retail chain stores within
the China market. As well as
implementing a brand marketing program that promotes new
products from the U.S. into the
Chinese marketplace. Earning her MBA in International
Business Management from Willamette University's
Atkinson Graduate School of Management (Salem, Oregon);
today Ms. Xiao offices in the U.S. In addition to having
and active group of trading partners “Sam” is
responsible for developing for the ongoing relationship
of new and existing sources of US products for export.
She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, as well as English.
Prashant Iyer -
International Trading Manager
Prashant Iyer brings over eight years of international
trade experience within the industry; working with well
know food companies like The Global Green Company
(global pickle vendor based in India) and The Inventure
Group (snack foods). He is responsible for
international sales, private label programs, as well as
sourcing. Prior to joining McLane Global, Prashant was
with Sun Microsystems as an analyst with his work
focused toward market research; he has an MBA in
International Management from the Thunderbird School of
Global Management and he completed a Master’s in
International Business in India. He is fluent in English,
Hindi and Tamil.
Oswin Suyapto -
International Trading Manager
Oswin Suyapto draws from his early years of
industry experience with the Fleming Corporation.
He began his work there within the export department
working closely with the marketing and accounting
departments. Oswin’s strong entrepreneurial spirit
pushed him to expand his talents which led him to join
the McLane Global team. Today he develops new
business and continues to service his customers focused
on areas of Indonesia, Korea, and Saipan.
Oswin holds a BS in Business Analysis and Finance from San Francisco State
University. He is
fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
Cheryl Farrow -
International Trading Manager
Cheryl Farrow joined McLane Global as an export trader
after fourteen years of experience within the wholesale
food distribution industry where she worked with one of
the industries leading players; the Fleming Corporation.
She gained valuable industry knowledge while working
closely with their on-going retail marketing programs
that assisted retailers in maximizing their marketing
dollars; she was a key player on both the merchandizing
team for retail, as well as in the export department.
Cheryl is currently responsible for the ongoing growth
and development within the Micronesian and Samoan
markets. She draws daily from her years of experience to
service her customers.
Pedro Santa Marta –
International Sales Manager, Europe
Pedro comes to McLane Global via
his tenure with another McLane Group Company – McLane
Portugal. He
has spent his career in managment and executive level
postions across several industries.
This wealth of experience makes him uniquely
qualified to manage McLane Global sales for Europe.
Pedro has a degree in Chemical Engineering from
the Lisbon Engineering University and is fluent in
English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
Pedro is a certified auditor by Bureau Veritas as
well as a member of both the American Society for
Quality and the
Associação
Portuguesa para a Qualidade.
Esther Lai
-
International
Trading Account Executive
Esther Lai works in the
International Trading Division handling all aspects of
export documentation, warehouse co-ordination,
procurement and logistics. Prior to joining McLane
Global, she worked in a similar capacity in the
San Francisco area; her years of
experience in the food export business have proved to be
a great asset to McLane Global's International Trading
Division.
The Domestic Division first began operating in 2004
as a sourcing agent to import food products for the Extreme Value
Industry. Over the next five years the team
developed a program to provide import capability to
the independent grocer. The cornerstone of this
program is the expansion of the Lady Liberty
Brand. In 2009 the division introduced a program to
supply import product to the food service industry
featuring its Lady Liberty label.
2010 will
bring the opening of a new distribution center to
further enable the domestic team to grow with expanded
product as well as the McLane Global world renowned
service.
Rick Bullock
-
Vice President, Procurement
Rick Bullock carries over 40 years of experience
within the food industry. His background includes retail
store management, chain store merchandising and
procurement, as well as the development and growth of
"outsourcing" opportunities for retail supermarket
chains. Prior to joining McLane Global, Rick spent 3
years with Supervalu developing their "Dollar Smart"
program as well as being the head of procurement with
both Farm Fresh Supermarkets and Jitney Jungle
Supermarkets. Rick is currently responsible for leading
the procurement team as well as managing McLane Global's
Lady Liberty Brand program.
Johnny Baird
-
Vice President, Domestic Sales
Johnny Baird has over 34 years experience in retail and
wholesale sales, management, and distribution within the
grocery and foodservice industry. Johnny served as
President of McLane Foodservice and its successor
Performance Food Group of Texas. Johnny joined the
McLane Group family again in 1999 as Managing Director
for MC-Australia, a grocery distribution company based
in Penrith. He returned to the U.S.
as President of the McLane Group Consulting Company,
where he provided key leadership for the implementation
of warehouse and logistics solutions that helped
establish Peapod. Johnny's vast experience has been
instrumental in the growth and direction of other McLane
Group companies, such as Leading Edge Brands and Classic
Foods. He has most recently been the Managing Director
for McLane Polska, one of the leading FMCG distributors
to restaurants, petrol stores, supermarkets, and
provider of frozen logistics in Poland.
He is a graduate of
Howard
Payne
University, with a degree in
Accounting, Business, and Political Science.
Jerry Begnal
-
Director of
International Sourcing
For over 25 years, Jerry has worked for the premier food
importers in the USA. Jerry has traveled extensively
throughout the world, including Asia, South America and
Europe
in order to establish close and trusting relationships
with the mostly highly respected manufacturing firms in
the world. In these travels, Jerry has personally
inspected and audited factories in order to ensure that
Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP procedures are
being utilized. In accordance with McLane Global's
Quality Assurance Program, he is now working with all
suppliers of McLane Global to make certain that they are
in compliance with the Global Food Safety Initiative. He
is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.
Paula Deuschle -
Domestic Sourcing Assistant
Paula graduated with honors from The
University of San Buenaventura in
Cali, Colombia. She earned a B.S. in
economics and worked for more than a decade in finance.
She relocated from Colombia to the United States and joined the McLane
Global team over two years ago. Paula provides support
on a daily basis to the Domestic Sales and Sourcing
Staff in addition to the accounts she works with
directly. She is fluent in Spanish, as well as English.
Will Kennedy
-
Sales Manager
Will has over 20 years of experience in the retail
industry. His career began in store management
with Walmart, where he developed his skills in product
merchandising and placement. Will moved to the
supplier side of the industry by representing National
Brands throughout the southeastern United States,
while working in the local broker community. He
spent 11 years with Daymon Worldwide working with key
retailers, coordinating their efforts to drive sales and
profits through Private Label. In addition to his
work increasing sales with domestic retailers,
particularly local independents, Will also leads the
McLane Global effort for Extreme Value stores as that
business expands in 2010.
Michael "Mickey"
Maddux -
Sales Manager
A graduate of Tarleton State University,
Mickey's career began in management with WilsonArt in
their Temple, TX warehouse.
He began his sales career with McLane Food Service where
he went from salesman, to top salesman and finally sales
manager within five years. He then spent thirteen
years with Ben E. Keith where he was consistently the
sales leader in his area and received numerous
achievement awards. Mickey is known for his focus
and hustle and brings to McLane Global knowledge of Food
Service that is at the top of the highly competitive
industry.
Kelley Tassone
-
Account
Executive/Executive Assistant to the CEO
Kelley Tassone served as executive assistant to McLane
Group Chairman Drayton McLane at the beginning of her
career and uses her 15 years of administrative
experience to manage the day to day administration of
McLane Global. Her responsibilities include human
resources, recruiting, benefit administration, training,
organizational development. In addition Kelley is
responsible for account executive activities for the
Domestic Division. She is also a licensed Realtor
and a member of Toast Masters International.
The backbone of any organization is the support
staff at the home office. With McLane Global's
multi-faceted trading and distribution business they
are even more valuable and relied upon. Our
logistics department keeps goods moving 24 hours a
day, everyday of the week whether by land, sea or in
the air. Logistics at our Houston based
distribution center keeps goods moving in and out
safely and accurately for prompt and timely
delivery. All of this operation falls under
the more than capable hands of the leadership here
at McLane Global, who are there to assure our
customer service level and satisfaction is a model
for the industry.
Todd Frease
- Senior
Vice President Finance and Logistics
Todd’s 15 years of experience in accounting and finance
within the grocery industry allow him to navigate the
complex challenges of the business. His leadership
plays a vital role within our management team. Todd
graduated from
Miami
University
in Oxford, Ohio with a BA in Accounting and Finance.
Earning his CPA in the state of
Ohio
in 1993, He joined The Kroger Co. and held positions in
Audit, Tax, as well as Assistant Corporate Controller of
The Kroger Co.
and Controller of the Texas/Louisiana Division. Today
Todd is responsible for the McLane Global Accounting and
Finance department, as well as Logistics facilities and
transportation.
Jennifer Powers -
Logistics Manager, Transportation
Jennifer brings over 12 years of experience within the
logistics field to the McLane Global team. Her
expertise encompasses both international and domestic
traffic spanning from air to ocean export, as well as 5+
years of managing high level accounts of major food
importers. Her knowledge of customs procedures and
international shipping serve as an invaluable asset in
her role as Logistics Manager. She is committed to
facilitating import/export growth within the company by
providing outstanding internal support and excellent
customer service.
Jacqueline O'Steen

Logistics Assistant
Jackie comes to McLane Global from a career in
Communications, P.R. and Advertising in Cartagena,
Colombia, where she even spent time as a reporter for a
Cartagenian newspaper. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in
Journalism and Communications from Universidad Jorge
Lozano in Cartagena and a
Master's degree in Organizational Communication
Management from Universidad del Norte in
Barranquilla, Colombia. Fluent in both English
and Spanish, her communications background makes her
uniquely qualified to handle the complicated world of
international logistics.
Mike Julian -
CEO/Chairman
Mike Julian’s 38 years of leadership and experience
within the grocery industry made him a natural fit as
Chairman, CEO of McLane Global. Mike began his
career in grocery management while in upstate New York. His aggressive
style soon made him a well respected leader within the
industry. He has consulted to high-level,
nationally recognized grocery chains, as well as serving
as President and CEO of two major U.S. grocery companies. His
long term relationship with well known grocery
distribution leader, Drayton McLane, Jr. led to a joint
vision that included the development of the Domestic
Division of McLane Global. Mike’s visionary leadership
spearheaded the expansion that lead to the opening of
McLane Global's new Home Office and distribution center
in Houston.
